A new school, language barriers and bullying from fellow students had a marked impact on Isabel and Gabriela. Isabel, a bright and motivated 8-year-old, found herself falling further and further behind her classmates and her self-esteem plummeted. Gabriela, 6, became angry and often struggled with controlling her emotions. Unable to effectively communicate with school staff about their children’s challenges, Laura and Peter were frightened and overwhelmed.
We helped the Garcias…
- Secure healthcare coverage for their children
- Connect Isabel and Gabriela with free therapy to help them cope with their new environment
- Complete parenting classes to support their children’s mental health and improve family dynamics
With consistent therapy sessions underway, the children started to improve, and their health was stabilizing.
Our dedicated Family Outreach Advocate took the family under her wing and followed up on their progress. Isabel and Gabriela began to thrive and started looking forward to attending school. Laura continued with the parenting classes enabling her to better cope with the challenges faced by her children.
The Garcia family’s story etches in bold strokes the profound impact FSA provides to families navigating stormy waters. Their journey is a powerful reminder that with the right support, the most arduous of challenges can be overcome, and life can stabilize.
