School Outreach Mentors

FSA’s Outreach Mentor Program offers short-term, school-based support to youth and parents on all K-8 campuses in the Santa Maria-Bonita School District.

  • Provides students with support, education, and advocacy to prevent problems such as antisocial behavior and truancy
  • Links students and parents to basic-needs resources
  • Organizes educational campaigns and classroom presentations (e.g., Too Good for Drugs and The Bully-Proof Kit) to help students with decision-making and conflict resolution
  • Creates mentoring opportunities (e.g., cross-age tutoring and Career Day) to provide students with positive role models

Youth learn to create lasting bonds, increase self-confidence, and improve school attendance.

More than 70% of students who participate in the Outreach Mentor Program show an improvement in behavioral issues.
