Family members and friends who are providing care for someone may be considering an assisted living situation for a variety of reasons.
Their loved one has suffered a fall, stroke, or other traumatic incident, which required hospitalization and follow up care in a rehabilitation hospital, and these individuals can no longer safely return to their homes, even with the devoted assistance of their caregiver.
Whether there has been a traumatic incident or not, often those who provide care are understandably, overwhelmed. It has become too physically and emotionally taxing for them. Their own health and wellbeing have suffered, and they too, need assistance. They simply cannot do it anymore.
And then, there are some individuals who have decided they cannot manage all the daily tasks necessary to live on their own and would like to be relieved of responsibility for them.
Whatever the reason for seeking Assisted Living, you are likely confused about where to begin.
Placement Agencies are an excellent place to start. Placement Agencies provide a “one-stop shop” and are dedicated to helping people with the daunting and sometimes overwhelming task of narrowing down the best placement options for a loved one.
Placement Agencies take an in-depth look at an individual’s physical, social, cultural, and financial status and that of their family. Based upon their needs and desires, they make recommendations for places to consider and assist in all aspects of the next steps: confirming availability, arranging tours, providing a list of things to consider, coordinating medical documentation necessary to make the move, providing referrals to other professionals when needed, and following up with residents and their loved ones once they have relocated to their new home.
We are fortunate to have many senior community options in Santa Barbara County, ranging from large Continuing Care Retirement Communities, which provide a progression of care: from Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, through Skilled Nursing, to small, six-bed homes, which offer more intensive, hands-on care, including end of life Hospice Care. All communities are licensed by the State, and all provide excellent care.
At Santa Barbara Senior Living Consultants, we have longstanding relationships and deep familiarity with each Assisted Living option—something vital in making the best recommendations possible to suit the unique needs of those we are honored to assist.
