About Family Service Agency
Family Service Agency (FSA) has been part of Santa Barbara County’s foundation since 1899.
What began as a small community effort has evolved into a countywide network dedicated to helping children, families, and seniors build stability, improve emotional well-being, and access the resources needed for a healthy, connected life.
Over its long legacy, FSA has grown from a traditional social-service provider into a whole-person, holistic care organization. One that understands life’s many situations and that a person’s mental health, relationships, environment, and basic needs are deeply interconnected. Our programs reflect that belief, offering support that meets people where they are and considers every dimension of their well-being.
Today, FSA is recognized as one of the region’s most trusted human service organizations. We connect locals with services ranging from mental health counseling and school-based support to guidance, senior services, and assistance accessing food, housing resources, and public benefits. This integrated approach ensures that individuals and families receive the right help at the right time.

Nearly 80% of FSA’s services take place outside of our offices; on school campuses, in community centers, and directly in clients’ homes. By being in the community, we reduce barriers to access, lessen stigma, and build relationships that enable real change.
Each year, FSA supports nearly 30,000 children, adults, and seniors across Santa Barbara County. Our approach blends clinical expertise with cultural responsiveness and strong partnerships with schools, healthcare providers, and local agencies to ensure that no one falls through the cracks.
Access For All
FSA is committed to ensuring that cost is never a barrier to care. Our Sliding Fee Discount Program provides free or reduced-cost mental health services based on household size, income, and housing costs. No one is denied access to services due to an inability to pay.
